Repainting a room or entire building can be quite exciting! However, before you get started repainting you need to make sure your walls are in good condition.

It is common for drywall and plaster walls to suffer damage over the years, whether it be from furniture causing nicks in the wall to the drywall cracking. So how do you go about repairing different types of drywall damage? We are glad you asked.

Tips For Repairing Various Drywall Issues

Drywall Cracks

Drywall cracks typically occur within the first year after construction, however extenuating circumstances can cause drywall cracks to occur at any time. To repair drywall cracks, follow these three simple steps:

  1. Determine the cause of movement and fix it
  2. Tape the crack to provide strength
  3. Finish the area by applying drywall mud to the tape

If you have plaster walls, the steps to repair the crack are extremely similar, however, determining the cause of the crack will be more difficult

Follow these simple steps to repair that unsightly crack in your wall so we can repaint your building and revitalize your space!

Drywall Dents

For larger dents, you are going to have to use a joint compound. To apply these compounds, use a putty knife. Once dry you will need to apply two more layersof the compound in order to properly fill the dents.

no matter what size the dent, make sure to sand down the sealant so that it is flush with the wall for the best results .

Nail Holes

Nail holes are a very simple fix! All you need to do is apply putty to the unsightly hole  and wait for it to dry. Once it has dried, sand it down so that the spot is flush with the wall. Once done,  you are ready to paint over this wall and restore the room to its former glory.

Doorknob Sized Holes In Drywall

If you have a doorknob-sized hole in your drywall, you will need to purchase a wall patch kit that contains a self-adhesive mesh patch. Apply the patch to the hole in the wall and then use your putty knife to cover it. Use a criss-cross pattern to properly marry the putty to the wall and then let it dry. Once dry, determine how many more coats you will require to properly seal the hole. Once the hole is properly filled, sand it down so it is flush with the wall and you are ready to paint!
